Since 2010, the scientific body of the Pharmacopoeia Commission of Indian Medicine (PCIM) now Pharmacopoeia Commission of Indian Medicine & Homeopathy (PCIM&H) is an apex body of Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India is guiding APC for quality standards of Ayurvedic drugs. Once a Pharmacopoeia, or an article in it, has been approved by the body invested with such authority (The Ayurvedic Pharmacopoeia Committee (APC)) compliance with the quality prescribed therein becomes mandatory under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act 1940 (Anonymous, 1989 Anonymous, 2012). The Ayurvedic Pharmacopoeia of India (API) is a legalized document of the Government of India describing the quality, purity and strength of selected drugs that are manufactured, distributed, and sold by the licensed manufacturers in pan India.
